Interdisciplinary Network for Special and Intercultural Education

Opening avenues of participation and social action for all.

A few words about us

Interdisciplinary Network for Special and Intercultural Education:

We are a team working with passion to open pathways for social participation for all.

Our network consists of 218 members:
scientists, researchers, academics, mental health professionals, educators, and parents.

We are united by social sensitivity, creative thinking, and a profound dedication to giving back. Since 2011, we have been designing inclusive practices that pave the way for equal participation in technology, sports, and education. Because for us, progress only holds meaning when it applies to all.

OUR VALUES

The active participation of vulnerable groups in the community through practical methods and tools for inclusion.

Diversity acts as an engine for development, yet its social acceptance remains a challenge. In contemporary society, ‘difference’ is frequently burdened with negative connotations and stereotypically linked to ‘inferiority’ (Barnes, 2011; Soulis, 2013; Nanou, 2013; Efstathiou, 2017). This bias restricts a significant portion of the population from engaging in social action (Nanou et al., 2020; Efstathiou, 2017; Soulis, 2013; Ombudsperson, 2019). When individuals are excluded based on socio-cultural identity or disability, society loses the essential complementarity that diversity provides. Consequently, our social fabric thins, replaced by a rigid uniformity that hinders authentic progress.

Innovation and Research – We devise new practices and leverage international collaborations to promote inclusion and disseminate good practices. We publish best practices in scientific journals and books and organize training activities.

Education, Empowerment, and Advocacy – We develop education, training, and advocacy programs that enhance inclusion, individual and social progress, and active participation in the community.

Visibility and Participation – We enhance our visibility and collect feedback from partners, members, and beneficiaries for continuous improvement of our actions.
