In a professional context, and especially in fields such as Information Technology, we often say that software is logic. However, a greater challenge than logic is to understand the logic—the code—but also the thinking of the people who use it or collaborate with it.

Many people talk about emotional intelligence and the important soft skills, such as a developer’s efficiency or a manager’s analysis. Emotional intelligence (the ability to share others’ emotions) is important. What truly makes a difference, however, is cognitive empathy (Perspective-Taking), the ability to understand others’ perspectives.

In this online section, we will learn how to map how others think and function, and how to step into their position in order to better understand their perspective.
